The morning sun nicely warmed the hut. Alfonso, half
asleep, pushed the furs with his feet to curl them at the
end of the mat. Some white lights started to become
annoying, always passing in front of his eyes. The lights
were only the sun’s rays piercing the foliage of the hut
and glinting on his nose.
He rubbed his eyes, and stretched his arms high above his
head. He suddenly realized where he was and rushed out in
of the hut in one sudden movement.
12.EXT FIELD DAY
ALFONSO looks around as if awoken from a nightmare. We can
not see the other little huts around.
ALFONSO
Wow...have I been dreaming?! I
swear that yesterday it was full
of huts and kids...
ALFONSO remembers the piece of moss Afy had given him and
entered the hut again.
13.EXT FIELD ALFONSO HUT DAY
ALFONSO turns all the furs over and over again and find
the piece of moss. ALFONSO instinctively lifts it to his
nose. ALFONSO come out of the hut again.
14.EXT FIELD DAY
ALFONSO come out of the hut backwards went back out and
almost fell to the ground. ALFONSO gives a muffled cry.
Just ahead is AFY, who looks very surprise.
AFY
What happened to you kid? Since
you woke up you’ve been crazily
breathless coming in and coming
out the hut!
ALFONSO, with his mouth open, looks at AFY, and,
awkwardly, could say nothing. Out of his mouth he sounded
only a few grunts. AFY looks at him with surprise.
AFY
You’re alright mate?
ALFONSO
But you’re here?! Are you
actually here?”
AFY looks behind her back to see if it is her ALFONSO is
even talking to. ALFONSO is still stunned and AFY is
confused.
AFY
Who are you talking about?
ALFONSO
YOU! Yes, of course you! You are
here and you are real! What the
hell! It’s not a dream? It’s not
a dream! WOW!
AFY
Dream? What dream? What are you
talking about?!
ALFONSO
I dreamed there were lots of kids
here...we all danced...ate lots
of food...there were fires...lots
of things...damn!....I know what
I’m talking about! I dream of you
too! You all had strange names
and I changed them...
AFY
Of course I know what you’re
talking about because it was all
real! You did not dream any of
it! We found you fallen in the
forest and brought you here. Hyg,
Shap, Kali...I’m Afy...it was you
who gave me my name too! Are you
nuts or what?
ALFONSO
But where are all the things? The
other huts? The other kids? It
was full of kids here last night!
And there were fires! Yet there
are no traces of them here...
AFY
Before we met you, did you ever
see any of the kids? Or hear any
noises at night? Or even see
bonfires? NEVER! (strongly
emphatic)Every day we must hide
our traces...it’s called
CAMOUFLAGE! I think you will have
heard of it!
ALFONSO smiles nervous.
AFY
The other kids are working as
they do every day, without even
having a choice. And because I’m
here with you, two kids are
working even harder to try to
replace my collection.
ALFONSO
Collection? Collect what? What
work is this?
AFY
Well, it’s not the most pleasant
thing but its part of our lives.
We have to collect all the Bright
Water that flows from Creation
Spring and deliver it to Lord
Totopuk, the Master of Life.
Without our delivery, nothing can
be as it is. There is no life, no
forest, no fruits or animals...no
Pony Boys.
AFY looks down shyly. ALFONSO looks at her as if hearing
the greatest nonsense ever and replies as he starts
walking out of the clearing.
ALFONSO
Ok, ok. I understand you are here
to preach all of these lies to
me! Look, I’m leaving. People
will already be worried about me.
I have to go home. I enjoyed
meeting you.
ALFONSO continue with his cavalier attitude, turns very
stiffly and briefly while appearing a little
disinterested.
ALFONSO
Ah, by the way... You’re really
cute! Yeah, you’re such a cutie!
ALFONSO turns and goes to head out of the clearing.
AFY
YOU CANNOT GO AWAY!” (she shouts)
Wait Alfonso! You’ve got to stay,
you can’t walk away... you can’t
go away... you just can’t...
AFY dropps her voice as if she had the greatest
sorrow in life and let herself fall, sitting crestfallen
on the floor, but just for a moment. Then she abruptly
shot up in the air and let out a shriek. Two kids
instantly came into the midst of the foliage and ran
behind Alfonso.
