So, Lets start writing!

I decided to start some very basic tips on how to start writing a story. These can be applied for scripts, for a book, for a stage play etc.
One of the mistakes that many people do when they start writing is not making a plan or a treatment. They wake up in the morning and think "I want to write a story", and they run to the notebook and start to write frantically.

Now, stop right there!

Lets start from the beginning. Before you put your pen on the paper think about:

What story I want to tell?

Is it a true story? Is it an adventure? A Romance? A comedy? A sci-fi? Whatever....

This is the moment you PITCH your idea. (remember this word, it going to follow you for the rest of your scriptwriting career).

So, when you pitch your idea make sure you know exactly what you want to do. Take notes, think about it, be sure you are comfortable with the subject. If you are thinking about an era, make sure you have resources and where to research. If you want that your work come out of basics, be true!

BE TRUE TO YOUR STORY!

Research, research research! Check every detail about your story. It happens in 1800 something? So what the people used to wear at that time? What food they used to eat? Check it all.

Try different resources, books, internet, archives... It doesn't take too long for you to have an idea of the era you want to write about it. This not only give you the opportunity to be as much accurate as possible but, not rarely, gives you extra ideas and details to fill your story.

Of course, if you have the habit of reading, let's say, since you were a kid, that will help you even more. One thing that's very difficult to get in a short time is GENERAL CULTURE. Start right now to incentivise your kids to read. If they ask you something don't answer! (Yes don't do that) Tell them to check an encyclopedia or a dictionary. I'm serious! Don't be easy with this if you want a outstanding kid! They will thank you in the future. Ok, if he asks you "what time is it?" or "What is the dinner?" you can answer those ones!

For today, this tip: Research, investigate and create a world to your story that is TRUE.

I will keep on the subject on the future posts.

See you around!
